NX Now Stores PDF as Child of UGPart

As you move forward to the more recent release of NX / Teamcenter, you will encounter a change that may cause some confusion.  This change was added in NX 1980, however you may not notice this until after we upgrade to a current release of NX /Teamcenter.

NX will now store the exported PDF as a child to the UGPart source part.

This behavior cannot be changed. The functionality for this area has been enhanced to accommodate the Item Revision being able to realize the association to the source dataset; given that there could be multiple source datasets in an Item Revision. Previously, this association to the source part (such as the UGPART dataset) was not there and caused issues for other downstream use cases.

Starting in NX1980, in Customer Defaults, ‘Gateway-->Export-->PDF/CGM-->Teamcenter Integration (tab)’, the ‘Relation’ preference is set to ‘No Relation’ by default.

With‘No Relation’ specified, the exported PDF or CGM datasets are only attached under the source part (such as the drawing UGPART dataset) as an “NXDrawing” relation. This relation will always exist, even when ‘No Relation’ is specified in Customer Defaults.

If the ‘Relation’ Customer Default is set to ‘Manifestation’ or ‘Specification’, the PDF dataset will also appear under the ItemRevision with the Manifestation or Specification relationship.

EXAMPLES:

Here are some examples using PDF, which will show the results you can expect to see with the Customer Defaults set with the different Relation value.

Example1 'No Relation':

CustomerDefaults, ‘Gateway-->Export-->PDF/CGM-->Teamcenter Integration (tab)’,the ‘Relation’ preference is set to ‘No Relation’ by default.

Export> PDF

ExportedPDF with the above "No Relation" set for the Relation, this will create a PDF as a Child to the UGPart

This is stored with the Relation of NX Drawing

Example2 'Specification':

CustomerDefaults, ‘Gateway-->Export-->PDF/CGM-->Teamcenter Integration (tab)’,the ‘Relation’ preference is set to ‘Specification’.

Export> PDF

Using 'Specification' set as the Relation, the newly exported PDF will appear in theItem Revision with the Specification Relation and also as a child of the UG Partsource part with the NX Drawing Relation.

Example3 'Manifestation':

CustomerDefaults, ‘Gateway-->Export-->PDF/CGM-->Teamcenter Integration (tab)’,the ‘Relation’ preference is set to ‘Manifestation’.

Export> PDF

Using'Manifestation' set as the Relation, the newly exported PDF will appear in theItem Revision with the Manifestation Relation and also as a child of the UG Partsource part with the NX Drawing Relation.

Options to Follow if you want to delete the PDF / CGM:

If you are concerned because this “NX Drawing” relationship to the UGPART dataset prevents the CGM or PDF from being deleted from the Item Revision, you can do the following to delete the CGM or PDF from the ItemRevision:

Option #1:

a.   Highlight the CGM or PDF dataset under the source dataset, such as under the UGPART dataset, ‘MB3-->Cut’.

b.   Select the CGM or PDF dataset under theItemRevision.

c.    In the Teamcenter menu select,‘Edit-->Delete’.

Option #2:

a.   Highlight the CGM or PDF dataset under theItemRevision.

b.   Go to the ‘Impact Analysis’ tab.

c.    Where = Referenced ( POM )
To have this ‘Where’ option, you may have to set the Teamcenter preference(WhereReferencePOMPref=1).

d.   Highlight the paperclip that represents the NXDrawing relationship.
This can be seen by selecting the paperclip, ‘MB3-->View Properties’.

e.   In the Teamcenter menu select,‘Edit-->Delete’.

f.    Highlight the CGM or PDF dataset under theItemRevision.

g.   In the Teamcenter menu select,‘Edit-->Delete’.

Also, if you wish to hide the PDF or CGM visibility under the UGPART dataset, you can remove the value, “IMAN_Drawing” from the Teamcenter preference, “UGPART_DefaultChildProperties”.This is done under ‘Edit-->Options’ in Teamcenter.

NOTE: This will only remove the visibility of the CGM or PDF dataset under the source part. The relationship is still there, just not shown.
