Default Solid Edge Search Tools Using Teamcenter

The Solid Edge Open Dialog offers basic quick search based on Item ID, Item Name, and Item Description.  These search offerings can easily be modified to include your companies’ key attributes or properties.

Teamcenter Preference to Extend Solid Edge Search

The following Teamcenter “SEEC” Preference SEEC_Search_SearchQueries defines the list of queries available in the Solid Edge Search Pane.  The queries defined in this list must contain only one search criteria.  In this capture we will show the “out of the box” Solid Edge Embedded Client search options.

To extend the list of queries available in the Solid Edge we can start by creating a query in Teamcenter using the Query Builder. Just keep in mind that the query we utilize can only use one search criteria or property.  In the following example we will show here, we create a query that will search based on the single property JOB Number.

NOTE: DBA Access is required to add or modify existing queries.

Extend Solid Edge Search Preference

Now that we have the Teamcenter Query “DF-JOB-Number” created, we can proceed to modify the preference SEEC_Search_SearchQueries by adding the newly created query to the list.  

NOTE:  DBA Access is required to add or modifyexisting queries.

The order that we use, will dictate the order that the queries are shown in the Search list within Solid Edge.

Now that we have added the query to the SEEC_Search_SearchQueries, we can start SolidEdge on the client and see the available search tools have been added for our selection.  Once you have set the search to the newly added query, it will be captured as your default selection for subsequent use.

Once you have made the above change, we assume you would like to use this quick search capability in Teamcenter as well.  You can utilize the same query in Teamcenter Quick Search by extending additional Teamcenter Preferences as follows.

The default QuickSearch in Teamcenter can also be extended to include the same queries that you use in Solid Edge.  The next captures show the same query added to the Teamcenter Quick Search preferences.  There are two preferences that will need to be modified to define the Teamcenter Quick Search list and they are shown in the next captures.

Now with the above preferences extended we can see the Teamcenter Quick Access Queries available in the different clients.
