Licensing - What Information is Gathered by the CID Utility?
The getCID.exe utility uses functions from Flexera's FlexNet Publisher (FNP) API to obtain a unique 'composite HostID' using various machine parameters like the Ethernet address, disk serial number, hostname, network IP address, etc. FNP combines them and applies a hashing algorithm (believe this to be SHA1) to produce a 12-character hexadecimal value to serve as the machine identifier suitable for license generation. Although this is not a random number per se, it might as well be since Siemens cannot extract any of the original parameters from the 12-character hashed value.
As a rule if you are going to change a server physically (network card) or virtually (hostname) in a way that modifies how the machine is identified on a network, you will experience a change in the CID,
