Fixing graphic issues and other unexplained issues with Solid Edge
Below are a few things to try before contacting support. These tips will help determine if the problem is a software error or a hardware issue.
1) Can you repeat the problem on another computer?
If the problem cannot be repeated on another computer, it is most likely either a user profile issue (user settings), or hardware issue. The following steps should resolve most of the issues related to typical user profile or hardware issues.
2) Is your graphics card driver up to date?
This becomes obvious when new versions of software are installed. Especially with graphic performance. Keeping your graphic card, and hardware, drivers up to date will eliminate many graphics issues.
3) When was the last time you cleaned out your Temp directory?
Note: It is recommended that you close all applications before starting the process of cleaning up the Temp directory
To do this, you want to delete all the files in the C:\Users\[username]\AppData\ Local\Temp folder. Where [username] is the name that you use to log in to windows. You will need administrator privileges. Note: You can also type %temp% into the address bar of the windows explorer and this will direct you to your temp folder.

Note: If you can't find the AppData folder, you have to go to the View tab and select Options. In the Folder Options dialog, go to the View tab and make sure that you toggle on the Show hidden files, folders, and drives option.

Select all the files in the temp folder using the Ctrl+A keys, and then hit the Delete key. You’ll be prompted with the following message:

Click Yes. Don’t worry, Windows will not let you delete any files that it still needs. If Windows still requires a file, you will get the following message:

Toggle on the “Do this for all current items” option and click Skip.
If Windows still requires a folder, you will get the following message:

Toggle on the “Do this for all current items” option and click Skip.
Note: Once this task is complete, I would suggest that you also empty your Recycle Bin.
4) Reset Solid Edge preferences to default.
Note: Resetting a user's Solid Edge preferences will result in any user customizations, themes, Solid Edge options, etc. being reset. You may want to consider backing up the objects before performing the reset.
1. Exit Solid Edge.
2. Run 'regedit' [or your registry editing tool of choice].
3. Inside the registry delete the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Siemens\Solid Edge key and everything under it. WARNING: do NOT delete 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Siemens\Solid Edge'.
Note: If you are using and older version of Solid Edge (pre SE2023) replace \Siemens\Solid Edge with \Unigraphics Solutions\Solid Edge instead.
4. Exit 'regedit'.
5. In 'Windows Explorer' type %APPDATA%\Siemens into the Address bar and hit enter. Note: If you are using and older version of Solid Edge (pre SE2023) use %APPDATA%\Unigraphics Solutions instead.
6. Delete the Solid Edge folder and its contents found in this folder. Note: If you are using a pre SE2023 version, delete the %APPDATA%\Unigraphics Solutions folder and everything underneath it.
The user's Solid Edge settings have been reset and cleared.
Warning – If not sure of how to do any of these tasks, you should consult with your Manager or IT department.
5) Is your graphics card supported?
If you driver is up to date, and you are still having issues, it may be that your graphics card is not supported or not powerful enough. Solid Edge offers additional settings to support graphics cards that are not certified or powerful enough. From inside a modeling environment, open the Solid Edge options (Application>Settings>Options). On the View tab, uncheck the Automatic selection option, and then expand the drop-down menu, as shown below.

Notice the 4 options:

Change from Graphics card driven (Advanced) to just Graphics card driven.

Click OK to close the Solid Edge Options. You will get the following warning:

Click OK, and completely close down Solid Edge. Restart Solid Edge and test your graphics display. If everything works well keep this setting. If not repeat this step, but choose Software Driven (Advanced) and test it. If this still doesn’t work, try the final setting, Software Driven.
6) Search the Solution Center on the GTAC web page (https://support.sw.siemens.com/en-US/).
You will need a Web Key account to do this search.

The solutions center provides a link to know issues, FAQ’s, and the community.
